Family meetings are a great way for you to come together as a family to discuss issues that are important to your family.
If the meetings are run correctly, they are an incredible way to connect with family members, and discuss appropriately any problems that come up and that need to be addressed. They also teach your children that you value and care about their thoughts, ideas and opinions and happiness in the family.
Family meetings are great for all children, but usually around the age of 5 is when children start to fully understand the concept. Younger children can always be included and encouraged to join in with the support of an adult.
Here is how to get started with your family –
What you will need:
Time duration: Set the meeting at the same day/time each week for consistency, and keep it to 15 minutes.
Rules and Expectations:
Running the meeting: (Assign the time keeper)
Agenda: set the agenda and purpose prior to the meeting.
The most important component of Family Meetings is the power of positive communication within your family unit.
It brings you all together in a relaxed, fun and loving way AND most importantly it teaches your children that their role in the family is valued and important.

We acknowledge the elders past, present and emerging -particularly the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents who walked before us supporting and connecting their children to the earth, water and community. Always was. Always will be.
